DJ Skirt Takes A Break

0

In sad news, Texas-born, UK-based DJ Skirt (real name Bethany DeMoss) has announced that she will stop performing as a DJ.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the techno artist announced her recent battles with performance anxiety, concluding that if the “thought of an upcoming gig is making me actually physically sick and on verge of a nervous breakdown, then clearly something is wrong.”

She went on to say, “Wish I was more cut out for the DJ life, but I’m clearly just not… I really am OK and feeling positive about everything else, but when the nerves are so bad that you feel immense relief about cancelling a gig, it means these opportunities should belong to someone else now, and that there is another path for me to walk.”

DeMoss, whose work has been distributed by labels such as Horizontal Ground and Semantica Records, was a regular performer at top clubs like Berghain and Fabric. Fans have reacted with sadness to the news, though there have also been widespread demonstrations of support and encouragement for the talented DJ.

Prangman Releases Chamber EP

0

Chamber is the latest offering from electronic producer Prangman and is out now via Migration Records, a sub-label of NexGen Music.

The opening track “Far Away” features the vocals of Lyndsey Murray and is a sparse, rhythmic vocal breaks track, with overtones of acid jazz and soul. Murray’s husky vocal phrasing is offset by an understated keyboard progression that allows “Far Away” to breathe with the excitement of a new discovery.

Dan Meldrum, aka Prangman, has enjoyed airplay from Rinse FM’s Marcus Nasty and shared stages with the likes of Flava D, El-B, Wen, Khan & Nee, Teebee, Wookie and DJ EZ, to name but a few.
He performed at the 2013 Horizon Festival in Bulgaria and has held a residency at the regular Sous Sol event series, one of Leicester’s most established parties. Most recently, his participation at Outlook Festival in Croatia alongside Digital Mystikz, Loefa, Mooney and Killjoy, was very well received.

Regarding “Chamber”, Prangman states: “I use brands, objects or places to influence my decision on track titles, this can help me direct the sound of the track or the choose samples required. I like to fuse genres together to make a whole new unique sound. I guess it all stems from the drum & bass days. I’ve always been a massive drum and bass head and love the neurofunk sub-genre”.

Kachina announces release of Alright EP via NexGen sub-label Affectionate Grooves

0

The upcoming track “Alright (feat. Afua)” is taken from the new EP Alright and is scheduled for release on February 24.

The pacey track launches straight into cut samples of Afua’s soulful vocals and jazzy stabs, with the characteristically subby dancehall bass coming in soon after. The track is perfectly mixed for the dance environment, with gating and compression techniques creating an ideal balance between sound and silence, and a powerful reminiscence of solid 90’s electronica.

The UK based trio first formed in 2014 when producer Zurcon and frontman Rob Sparx discovered their mutual interest in drum and bass, dubstep, grime and dub studio sessions.

They first performed on RINSE FM DJ Marcus Nasty’s show in February 2016, and their debut EP Smile which received heavy support by Toddla T, BBC Radio 1 and DJ Monki, was co-written by fellow producer Prangman and released by Affectionate Grooves.

Says Kachina of the new track: “The title track “Alright” is an uplifting feel good tune with a happy vibe that takes you back to the classic 4/4 UKG sound but with a big BIG bass which keeps switching tone every 8/16 bars along with some lovely gospel-influenced vocals from Afua. The tune gets busier as it progresses with more drums, stab layers and vocal harmonies until it forms a much thicker, heavier and funkier sound towards the end.”

Their follow-up track “Waiting For You” will be released by Affectionate Grooves later in 2017.

Dessert Before Dinner As Todd Terje Puts Out Remix Track Ahead Of Album Release

In a bold reversal of the traditional way of doing things, Todd Terje has put out a remix EP of one of the tracks from his upcoming album, recruiting the talents of industry giants Four Tet and Prins Thomas in the process.

The new 12-inch will feature two versions of the track “Jungelknugen”, and will come out on Terje’s own Olsen Records label on February 24th.

As Terje’s press machine puts it, “After the show, it’s the afterparty and before the album it’s the remix single! That’s right folks, the Todd is back, bucking trends and shucking conventions to bring us two tip-top reworks of an as-yet-unreleased original.”
