The Festival describes the four stages at this year’s Festival as follows, “The ‘Psychedelic Forest’, curated by Vertigo and Illuminaughty, plays host to the heavy hitters and pioneers, whilst ‘Tribe of Frog’ bring cutting edge psytrance and progressive to the magical woodland. ‘Hitechnicians’ embrace the dark arts of hi-tech psychedelia, and newcomers ‘Lost Tribes’ introduces a new stomping ground! Joining all those in the risk-taking, rule-breaking and sonic exploration business of psychedelic bass, these psy gatherings are a true melting pot of tribal sounds mixing up glitch, dub and trance, leaving all with a sense of wonderment and intrigue.”

Prangman Releases Chamber EP

0

Chamber is the latest offering from electronic producer Prangman and is out now via Migration Records, a sub-label of NexGen Music.

The opening track “Far Away” features the vocals of Lyndsey Murray and is a sparse, rhythmic vocal breaks track, with overtones of acid jazz and soul. Murray’s husky vocal phrasing is offset by an understated keyboard progression that allows “Far Away” to breathe with the excitement of a new discovery.

Dan Meldrum, aka Prangman, has enjoyed airplay from Rinse FM’s Marcus Nasty and shared stages with the likes of Flava D, El-B, Wen, Khan & Nee, Teebee, Wookie and DJ EZ, to name but a few.
He performed at the 2013 Horizon Festival in Bulgaria and has held a residency at the regular Sous Sol event series, one of Leicester’s most established parties. Most recently, his participation at Outlook Festival in Croatia alongside Digital Mystikz, Loefa, Mooney and Killjoy, was very well received.

Regarding “Chamber”, Prangman states: “I use brands, objects or places to influence my decision on track titles, this can help me direct the sound of the track or the choose samples required. I like to fuse genres together to make a whole new unique sound. I guess it all stems from the drum & bass days. I’ve always been a massive drum and bass head and love the neurofunk sub-genre”.

0

Following hot on the heels of new single “Fractures”, Colorado-based future bass phenomenon Illenium has announced a debut London show at the Electric Brixton (May 12th).

Illenium, whose compositions have been described as “some of the best” that future bass has to offer by Dancing Astronaut and Billboard magazines, will be supported at the Electric Brixton by eclectic US DJ act Seven Lions.

“Fractures”, his new single – which has already flown to the top of numerous new electronic music charts – features a compelling pulse, hopeful lyrics and guest vocals from female electronic act Nevve, who have previously collaborated with Jayceeoh.

Don’t miss the chance to catch Illenium in the UK before he heads back across the pond to play the illustrious Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Global Dub and Shaky Beats festivals in the summer.

DJ Shadow, Dave Clarke, Gilles Peterson and Evian Christ will play the first Hong Kong edition of the Sónar music festival, its organisers announced yesterday.

The event, due to take place over six stages spread throughout Hong Kong’s Science Park on April 1st this year, forms another ‘satellite’ event to the chief attraction, joining Reykjavik (16-18 February) and Istanbul (24-25 March) as the programme builds to the main party in Barcelona in the summer.

This initial line-up announcement, which also includes Kingdom, Lady Leshurr and Ellen Allien, is an impressive coup for the Sónar team, as they look to continue to internationalise the brand.

Like with the events planned in Iceland and Turkey, the show will be complemented by a Sónar+D Creative technology Programme.

One of the highlights of the 2016 London festival calendar, Sunfall looks set for another scintillating year after making its first line-up announcement yesterday.

The festival, which will take place in London’s Brockwell Park on Saturday the 12th of August, is organised by the same team behind the The Columbo Group, an events company that manages the premier London nightclubs Phonox, XOYO, The Nest and Jazz Cafe. “We’re proud that the work we did to create great sound in a central London festival paid off,” Andy Peyton of The Columbo Group says of last year’s Sunfall event. “We are committed to surpass those levels again.”

This year’s edition features house, techno and disco acts from the UK and abroad, including big names Helena Hauff, Derrick May, The Black Madonna, Theo Parrish, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Antal, Palms Trax, Move D, Beautiful Swimmers and Jackmaster. Additionally, live sets are promised from Roy Ayers, Floating Points, Larry Heard and Romare.

Âme, Dixon To Headline Barcelona Innervisions Party

0

Always a highlight of the gig season in Barcelona, 2017’s Innervisions Party will feature a stellar line-up of artists, including Âme, Dixon, John Talabot, Todd Terje, Job Jobse and Schwarzmann.

The 10-hour session (4pm-2am) will take place on June 18th at Plaza Mayor De El Poble Espanyol, and organisers say they have elected to hold the event on a Sunday in order to “change the plaza’s setting and create a more intimate dancefloor-driven feeling.”

Crowds Walk Out Of FlyLo’s Surreal Film Debut

0

Leftfield electronica superstar Flying Lotus’ first attempt at a feature film has been deemed unwatchable. Some are calling it grotesque, others uncomfortable. But it seems certain to go down as one of the least palatable films ever.

Kuso allegedly caused walkouts en masse at Sundance Film Festival in Utah this week.

Previously, a snippet of the movie was premiered at the Sundance offshoot event NEXT FEST in Los Angeles in August. The venue saw fit to hand out barf bags before the screening.

However, a positive review from The Verge called it “the grossest film ever,” going on to describe scenes of “copious gore” and “vomit-inducing pseudo goofs.”

Dekmantel Festival Releases Teaser Video, Announces First Acts

0

The organisers of Dutch electronic music festival Dekmantel have released a cryptic promotional video on their Facebook page, that seems to hint at some of the acts that will be playing at this year’s event (to be held at  Amsterdamse Bos from 2-6 August).

The video, cleverly titled “Tomorrow’s Artefacts” and which has been shared widely on social media, presents a series of rendered 3D images spanning ancient and future worlds, that are occasionally ‘interrupted’ by glimpses of their ‘underlying code’.

A fun promotional stunt, eagle-eyed electronic music fans have so far been able ‘confirm’ the following acts for the 2017 Dekmantel Music Festival: Floating Points, Helena Hauff, Motor City Drum Ensemble, DJ Nobu, Joy Orbison, Bicep, Palms Trax, Doppler Effekt, Larry Heard, Vakula, Robert Hood, Boiler Room, Red Light Radio and Funktion-One.

Electronic Music Festivals Banned After BPM Shootings

0
The tragic shootings at the 2017 BPM Festival closing party in Playa del Carmen – which saw 5 people lose their lives – have prompted the mayor of the Mexican resort town, Torres Gomez, to declare: “”We want these types of events to go. We won’t allow one more.”

Speculation is rife about the involvement of cartels in the attack, which took place at the Blue Parrot nightclub at about 3am on the 16th of January. Unconfirmed reports state that one of the area’s drug cartels has claimed responsibility for the shootings, even displaying a banner that directly addresses Phillip Pulitano, the festival’s co-founder.

Praying for everyone down at #BPM right now. Music should unite us, this should never happen. #RIP to all the victims of this shooting 💔😭

— Electric Family™ (@ElectricFamily) January 16, 2017

Fans around the EDM world have reacted with shock and sadness to the news, and a flurry of debates surrounding festival culture have sprung up on message boards and social media platforms.
