In hugo, there’s a central question that Loyle Carner keeps coming back to: “I’m young, Black, successful and have a platform – but where do I go next?”

The answer is explored in this epic scream of a third album. With urgent delivery and gloriously widescreen production, Carner confronts both the deeply personal (“You can’t hate the roots of a tree, and not hate the tree. So how can I hate my father without hating me?) and the highly political (“I told the black man he didn’t understand I reached the white man he wouldn’t take my hand”). Cinematic in scale and scope, hugo is both a rallying war cry for a generation forged in fire and a study of the personal internal conflict that drives the rest of the album – as a mixed-race Black man, as an artist, as a father and as a son.

The result is his most cathartic and ambitious record yet, a coruscating journey into the heart of what it means to be alive in these tumultuous times, and one which looks set to neatly cement his position as one of the most potent and vital young talents around today. Working alongside renowned producer kwes. (Solange, Kelela, Nao), Carner leaves no stone unturned on this album, in both its sound and its stories. In a 10-track album that moves from gorgeous neo-soul moments to thundering hip hop, with immediate, infectious bangers and sampled interludes from non musicians (mixed-race Guyanese poet John Agard and youth activist and politician Athian Akec) Carner shifts seamlessly from micro to macro, confronting everything from strained relationships with family to the societal tears caused by class stratification.

The last few months have seen anticipation ramp up stratospherically for “hugo”, with searing,  vital instant classics like Nobody Knows (Ladas Road), Georgetown and Hate knocking critics for six and soundtracking the summer, not to mention publications as varied as The Wire and DIY joined unanimously declaring it his best work yet. All up, it’s merely more ammunition to the fact that 2022/2023 will be the year of Loyle Carner.

Known as the Milford Mayor and founder of Wave-Drill, Catford rapper Ghostface600 releases ‘Blue Mat’

Having spent years rising through the ranks, with his raw unfiltered street talk winning over audiences. From making music as a member of UK Drill group Block6, to releasing his first solo project 600 SZN as well as several successful singles such as ‘Fast Life’, ‘Paper Planes’ and more recently his face reveal single ‘Super Freak’.

On ‘Blue Mat’ the self-described ‘rapper with melodies’, reflects and reminisces on life and losing close friends over a refined melodic beat. Known for his often controversial bars, listeners will take in the drill bars that he delivers with his unique take on slowing down the lyrics and singing the bars rather than the aggressive energised delivery used in Drill tracks.

Ghostface600 has an increasingly diverse sound with standout hooks that juxtapose the often dark content in his releases, with every record he produces, he levels up. With his ever-growing fanbase, he puts creative artistry at the forefront of everything he turns his hand to and proves why he is a leading figure in the melodic rap scene.

Ascending mountains of music, producer Jerry Folk has chiseled out a spot for himself, two tracks at a time, releasing his latest double single ‘sadsongwtf/ All The Things’ under the Folkestad Recordings imprint. You may know the artist as FENGSEL, his alternate alias, and recall that, under the moniker, he explored the boundaries of percussive instrumentation, playing with retro tropes and drum breaks that he, in all likelihood, sourced from the golden age of hip hop.

The Norwegian Grammy winner keeps it classic with his latest release, utilizing a strong trap rhythm reminiscent of the early 2010s. In the low end, the snares knock with a distinctive woodblock texture while the high end cuts through the mix, ensuring that an upper tear level of energy is maintained throughout the length of both tracks.

With circumstances changing around him, Jerry Folk has had to adapt, adjusting his sound to suit his experience. He tells us, “‘Sadsongwtf / All the things’ is a double single and the second release towards my upcoming project Castle Tapes. It further plays with the palette I’ve been inspired to use the last years and is a result of me wanting to create things with high energy coming out of covid. Probably because of the lack of input I got from going out and things like that”.

Capo Corleone & Kuba Więcek releases dope visuals for ‘Brakes’

Capo Corleone is an international recording artist and music executive based out of Los Angeles. As the CEO of the highly successful C2 Management and founder and former CEO of Tree4ort Records, his musical endeavors shine bright. The alternative hip-hop artist has solidly embossed himself in global success, honing his international collaboration and artist development like no other.

His latest single ‘Brakes’ in collaboration with notable Polish jazz musician and global producer Kuba Więcek sees the unlikely pairing joining forces to create a hybrid between jazz and hypnotic hip-hop. Blending two worlds blissfully together, “Brakes” showcases transit-inspired melodies, energetic vocal energy and electronic euphony. Initiating their recording ventures virtually, they finally took to the studio in Warsaw to record their latest release. They explain, “It was really magical how quickly we worked together and clicked – we were really inspired by each other and it showed.”

Raised on West Coast artists like Snoop Dogg, 2pac, E-40 and Nate Dogg, Corleone’s latest single “Brakes” epitomizes that ‘on the go’ feeling that never seems to ease up, exploring the idea that you’re running without brakes or the ability to stop. Corleone explains, “The place and time definitely influenced the writing and attitude of my flow and performance. “Running with no brakes on” as I say in the song was exactly how I had been feeling moving from city to city.” Igniting inspiration to live a life of your own accord, “Brakes” is just the first chapter of Corleone’s and Więceks’ upcoming EP Thank Myself, exploring unparalleled self-gratitude to one’s own accomplishments, remaining strong and succeeding despite life’s obstacles.

Sky-rocketing to a charted position in the Apple iTunes Hip Hop Charts ahead of artists like Drake, Kanye and Eminem, Capo Corleone continues to garner huge success. He also wrote the walk-out song for European boxing champion Nina Meinke, bringing Corleone’s choruses to television screens around the globe. Paired with Więcek’s successful collaborations with Warner Music Poland, and critical acclaim from the likes of Downbeat, they’re shaping the sound of the future.

From a brilliant mind that is making his mark in the electronic music scene, comes a unique blend of old-school and new school with new genre-bending release from Jerry Folk. The producer takes one on a journey through the early 2000s with a final pit stop in the 2020’s with his latest masterfully crafted single ‘U Got It’ via Folkestad Recordings. Featuring an intro that is parallel to the likes of Lauryn Hill, this track immediately draws one in with an upbeat and nostalgic sound perfectly juxtaposed with its distinctly modern elements. The sounds of the synth paired with liquid-smooth vocals create an all-around entrancing vibe that compels one to hit replay again and again.

Stream/ Download:‘U Got It’ on SpotifyiTunes

Folk elaborates on the story behind the song: “As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more aware of how I get drawn to certain palettes over periods of time and how I can use this to make more cohesive projects. Thinking more conceptually about my sound choices and moods gives me a bigger feeling of purpose when making music. “Got It” is a result of the last couple of years where I’ve been drawn toward mediaeval-sounding things. Harpsichords, worn instruments, simple, folky (no pun intended) sounding music. It’s the first single from my upcoming project “Castle Tapes” and it captures a lot of the palette that has been inspiring me the last couple of years. Hope you enjoy it!”

With a distinct neo-soul influence, this song pays homage to two different eras of music by combining that distinctly y2k sound and seamlessly blending it with an electric beat. The result is a refreshing blend of today’s electronic sounds with yesteryear’s vocals.

Technology, where would we be without it in a pandemic-riddled world? Especially with the music industry taking a lot of the heat and live performances ever-so-slowly picking up in the last few months after a 2-year gap and decline. Producers have managed to keep the fire burning with software and music tech from names like iZotope and Native Instruments.

These two uniquely built music technology systems joined together last year and now have created a parent company called Soundwide, which will host these brands along with other names like Plugin Alliance, Brainworx, and the newly launched Sound Stacks.

Sound Stacks was engineered by the minds of Cesare Ferrari and Julian Store, and acts as a framework application for all these brands to work efficiently together. Definitely an exciting launch and a new way of working alone and collaborating from afar with minimal distributions.

Hip-hop artist Sean Paul shares ‘How We Do It’ music video with Pia Mia

Ready for another scorching season, multi-award-winning Billboard chart topper Sean Paul returns with a brand new single and music video entitled “How We Do It” featuring multi-platinum artist Pia Mia via Island Records. Listen to it HERE. Watch the music video HERE.

Of the release, Sean shared “This new single “How We Do It” is our way to show the listeners, how we dance, how we enjoy life, and how we stay fresh. Big up to Pia Mia, when we started recording this track we knew right away we wanted her on this single and she hit it out the park.”

The track pops off as an international anthem. Its energy dips in and out of island-inflected dancehall beats, slick R&B, and swaggering pop. Sean Paul leans into the production with a smooth and slick flow before multiplatinum artist, actress, and presence Pia Mia counters with an instantly unforgettable chorus. The accompanying visual, directed by Briana Gonzales, seamlessly translates this vibe to the screen as their chemistry instantly sizzles. Bathed in colorful spotlights, a gang of dancers surrounds Sean Paul and Pia Mia in a shallow pool. As water splashes, one showstopping dance routine after another transfixes. It notably serves as a reunion since Sean Paul appeared on the remix of Pia Mia’s “Hot” two years ago. Once again, he has ignited a genre-breaking global banger of epic proportions.

Most importantly, it sets the stage for more music and surprises from Sean Paul in 2022. For now, rock to “How We Do It!”

Meanwhile, his single “Dynamite” ft. Sia has eclipsed 26.8 million Spotify streams and 6 million YouTube views on the futuristic music video.  “Dynamite” marked a highly anticipated follow-up collaboration between the genre-bending artists since their smash hit “Cheap Thrills,” also produced by Greg Kurstin, which has generated over 1.6 billion YouTube views since its 2016 release.

Sean recently earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Reggae Album for his 7th studio album Live N Livin, which was released earlier this year. The album is a collaborative celebration of his Jamaican heritage and dancehall roots in which Sean trades the mic with Buju Banton and Damian Marley. Dancehall can be stereotyped as a competitive, macho space where sound clashes are king, but Live N Livin set out to emphasize what’s possible when unity is the goal. “We don’t need to divide our fans to attain the rotations on the airwaves or streams,” Sean says. “I hold this album very dear to my heart because it shows the effort of collaboration over confrontation.”

Last week, Sean announced 2022 U.S. Scorcha tour dates that will include features from his 8th studio album set to release later in the year. Returning to the stage following two years since touring due to the pandemic, he is eager and excited to reconnect with his fans live and in person. See full tour routing below.

Throughout his career, the international superstar has carved a home for himself while championing dancehall, as being an artist with a unique sound, look and passion. His ability to show the power and unity in music through various collaborations, across many genres has catapulted his career over the years on various charts, awards and with an enormous fanbase. Effectively Sean has brought that same concept back to his own genre and collaborated with some of his colleagues in reggae and dancehall, highlighting that together we can also make great music.

Sean Paul U.S. Dates:

05/14/22 Las Vegas NV – Lovers & Friends

05/15/22 Las Vegas NV – Lovers & Friends

05/27/22 Los Angeles California – The Novo
