Iglooghost releases second single ‘Sōlar Blade’ off new album

0

Seamus Malliagh, better known as producer and visual artist Iglooghost has released his new single ‘Sōlar Blade’ off his upcoming album Neō Wax Bloom.

Blending various different genres like juke, grime, IDM, and bass he produces sound that keeps ‘moving’.  Contorted synths and jittery percussions make his music come alive, rapidly shape shifting bringing life to the stories behind it.

According to Igloohost, ‘Sōlar Blade’ is about a “bug boy in a cloak stealing fruit and investigating a series of mysterious portals. Gazing inside one of them, his eyes meet with those of Yomi – a monk made of multi-coloured fog. Alarmed, Yomi leaps out of the temporal rift and begins chasing Uso across a mountain range made of chalk.”

The rest of the album also has a story to tell; ‘Neō Wax Bloom’ follows the events of an ecological disaster in a fantasy world called Mamu after two giant eyeballs crash land there.

‘Neō Wax Bloom’ is due September 29th via Brainfeeder.

INTERVIEW // Touching bass with Flatmate

0
Flatmate is a french duo exploring the different faces of bass music. Confident that the french house bass sound had to be showcased, they started producing a powerful bass house sound with neuro influences, and immediately garnered support from labels and channels such as UKF, Inspected, 3000 Bass and more.
After releasing their 5 track “Robots EP” on Gold Digger – which gained support from the likes of Habstrakt, Far Too Loud and  Heroburst to name a few,  Angelz asked them to remix one of his tunes for Tchami’s label Confession.

We chatted to them about their music, inspirations and upcoming events.

Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?
Hello ! All good, ready for the week-end 😀

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
At the moment, we’d say a kind of UK bass house with neuro influences.

What are the 5 albums that have influenced you the most?
Too much to keep only five, but 5 albums that inspired our sound now would be :
– Calyx – No Turning Back
– Clark – Body Riddle
– Distance – My Demons
– Vex’D – Degenerate
– Noisia – Split The Atom

Which other artists are you into at the moment and why?
We’re following more labels or channels than artists. Like Confession, Night Bass, Gold Digger, UKF…
They provide a lot of great tunes with plenty of gifted artists in different styles of house music.
Also we really like labels like Critical, Division or Neosignal for D&B, always good to hear the newcomers.
But we also like to listen to Disco Funk or Rap, old Rock, Techno… couldn’t stick to one genre !

Are there any key pieces of equipment that you are using to define your sound?
We mainly create and process our sounds into Ableton, also we use a Moog Slim Phatty and Virus TI for a few sounds.

Where do you gather songwriting inspiration?
Most of the time when we go to see DJs. A lot of our friends are DJs or music lovers in a wide range of styles, so they bring many influences too. Also when you feel strong emotions like anger or sadness it can be really helpful to write tunes !

What’s the best gig you have ever done and why?
I think that was when I opened for I Am Legion in my city a few years ago, but I can’t forget the time I played at a sunny outdoor festival near Leicester. Not a big crowd but the people I met there and the vibe was memorable !

And the worst?
Another outdoor festival this time in the city where I come from, bad weather and there were so many problems to deal with,  I had to burn last minute CDs because they had old CDJs, it didn’t really work and I ended playing only old tunes. Crowd was cool though, and first time my mum saw me playing 🙂

If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
We have full-time jobs apart from music, one is 3D graphic designer
and the other one is chef in a restaurant so I guess that would be the same!

Do you have any particular gigs or festivals that you dream about playing?
Any big outdoor stage with a big crowd enjoying the sound would be fine.

Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
A few tunes are ready but we can’t tell more for the moment, but yeah expect more from us! Thanks guys.

Follow Flatmate and stay tuned for updates on the French duo.

‘I Can Hear The Light Remixes’ out now // Sex Of Insects

0

Sex Of Insects have released the full EP ‘I Can Hear The Light Remixes,’ via Ylotana Music, available here. The EP consists of five tracks, with remixing by Dave Pad and Yappac.

Sex Of Insects is Anatoly Ylotana, Alexandra Bartashevich and Roman Korablove. Described by Clash Magazine as “concise, melodic, defined, concise, and contagious” they have worked with the likes of Sid le Rock, Luke vB & Hiroshi Watanabe.

Influenced by heavy rock from the seventies and eighties, Anatoly first experimented with the guitar at age 11. Citing  Since then, almost everything that happened in the music industry has experienced the musician’s taste.

Berlin-based producer, Yapacc’s take on the original ‘I Can See The Light’ see’s him transferring the song into a dancefloor-ready track whilst subtly maintaining the ambience of the original. Off-beat house-esque sub-rhythms and a melodic bassline helps to keep the energy of the track moving forward, whilst the top end guitars and vocals keeps the listener interest up until the very last second.

Russian-based Dave Pad’s remix also helps the original move onto the dancefloor with this incredibly funky, groove-laden back beat which simultaneously manages to hold onto the original tracks esthetical ambience. Euphoric house stabs and a continuous layered texture sits behind the tracks groove, adding a sense of nostalgia and depth to an already emotive original.

EP Tracklist:
01 I Can Hear The Light (Original Mix)
02 I Can Hear The Light (Yappac Remix)
03 I Can Hear The Light (Yappac Instrumental Remix)
04 I Can Hear The Light (Dave Pad Remix)
05 I Can Hear The Light (Dave Pad Instrumental Remix)

Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?
We are great, thank you . As always we’re working hard in the studio.

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
Groovy. An energetic sound but with a dark mood .

What are the 5 albums that have influenced you the most?
Daft Punk – Homework
50 Cent – Get Rich Or Die Tryin’
Blink 182 – Enema Of The State
Green Day – American Idiot
The Notorious B.I.G. – Ready To Die

We are always focused on Tchami’s stuff , and all the artists under his label Confession. They all have their unique style and they always release tracks with a never heard sound .

Are there any key pieces of equipment that you are using to define your sound?

What would you say some of the challenges artists face today in the music industry?
The biggest challenge is to achieve originality . Nowadays there is just so many people that make electronic music , so I know there is the risk of resembling each other . Everyone tends to imitate world famous producers but an artist should try to propose his own sound to break through .

Where do you gather songwriting inspiration?
Generally what we create comes from our mood at that moment , a sort of energy that makes us to pull out our emotions , turning them into tracks .

Take us through your songwriting process. Are there any particular steps you take when putting your music together?
There are no particular steps in our producing process . We could start from a sample , from a weird sound, anything . There are no rules when you make music . Just express yourself and what are you feeling at the moment .

Eyes Everywhere Release ‘Talk / Cold Bug Out’ via Psycho Disco

0

Eyes Everywhere teamed up with Treasure Fingers’ Psycho Disco! label to release their new EP “Talk / Cold Bug Out.” The two track project fuses house and tech-house pulling it’s influence from Chicago and Detroit style four on the floor.

“Talk,” is a vivid tech-house heater that pays homage to the energetic and dark modern electronic music scene where they developed their techno and house leanings.

Brian and Kyle were raised in and by the City of Buffalo, a place known as much for humble and honest work as it is for raucous parties. Rooted in everything from crust punk to trance, they aim to approach dance music with an attitude free from pretentious discord, and love a dj booth at ground level with an intimate crowd as much as a full production festival stage setup.

Having played globally recognized events like Holy Ship, Camp Bisco and HARD Summer while riding on the shoulders of popular electronic fusion giants like Fools Gold and Main Course, the boys have recently settled down to more organic sounds of techno and house, closer to the music of the Toronto clubs of the 2000’s where they got their introduction to dance music.

2016 and beyond have welcomed this change, with recent signings to hallowed California label Desert Hearts and groovier original and remix work for bassier imprints such as Sweat it Out and Box of Cats. Bookings from Los Angeles to Brooklyn and everywhere in between bring crowds, large and small, the natural byproducts of seven years of collaborative efforts with a message of love and remaining to true to self.

Last year the duo released with tastemaking labels Desert Hearts, Sweat It Out, and Box of Cats.  This year, they’ve already teamed up with Golf Clap on a collaboration (“Bout That”) out now via Toolroom, that debuted as Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune on Radio 1.

Out now, the EP’s first single, The B-Side, “Cold Bug Out” bounces across different influences, with a bassline and drums that carry an 80’s influence to soaring 90’s rave synths.
