Chicago-born Khaliyah X unveiled her mesmerising mixtape ‘What’s My Name?’ on September 13th 2024. The rising R&B trailblazer merges traditional R&B with a contemporary twist, and this new offering illustrates her growth and development as an artist.
‘What’s My Name?’ was created over the span of two years, and represents a period of profound personal expansion and self-discovery for her. Written between 2022 and 2023, Khaliyah X allowed her intuition to guide her as she freestyled the tracks instead of writing the lyrics beforehand.
The title track, which was released last year boasts over 500 000 streams across platforms, while the focus track ‘Disturb The Peace’ is filled with fiery, bold energy reminiscent of the likes of Kehlani and Summer Walker. The track features a delicate, captivating piano-led melody, with Khaliyah X’s serene vocals and lyrics swaying in tandem with it.
The mixtape features 10 remarkable tracks where Khaliyah X bravely unearths her inner world, emotions and experiences. It’s authentic and holds nothing back, setting the stage for an exceptionally powerful career for Khaliyah X.
Khaliyah X shares: “‘What’s My Name’ is an introduction to who I am as an artist—what I stand for and what I believe in. More than anything, I want to take the listener on a journey through the music. This project explores a range of emotions: anger, sadness, introspection, grief, and acceptance. I wanted to be as vulnerable as possible; it was both healing and a release from the habit of masking my true feelings in my music. After all, isn’t the best music the kind that makes you feel deeply? This project is both an introduction to myself and an ode to myself.”
