FRGN-SPCMN unveil sublime new album RIDE AROUND THE SUN

FRGN-SPCMN have returned with their latest offering, RIDE AROUND THE SUN which released on 18 October. RIDE AROUND THE SUN is an 18-track album showcasing the duo’s ability to merge elements of hip hop, experimental textures as well as R&B. 

The North Carolina-based pair have already made waves in the industry with contributions to the soundtrack of the iconic series Insecure by Issa Rae, as well as placements for artists such as Coast Contra and Lance Skiiiwalker (TDE).

The album holds a laid-back, late-night cruising vibe, driven by silken tempos and atmospheric soundscapes. The title track, featuring Mez and Ace Henderson serves as the heartbeat of the album, and is accompanied by an animated music video directed by Kieran Ionescu. On the title track the duo revealed: “It talks about the ideas of pain and pleasure throughout our lives and how you can’t have one without the other. The combination of both feelings is what describes our lives and the ride around the sun.”

The inspiration behind the album came from a lifechanging trip to Joshua Tree, California, where they were captivated by the vast, open desert. FRGN-SPCMN shared; “the idea behind this album is that everyone on this planet has a unique story. Even with our different paths in life, the one thing that we all have in common is that we are all navigating the chaos of human existence together, sharing this endless ride around the sun.”

Rising singer-songwriter Charlotte Boin returns with introspective single ‘the night is long’

Emerging French singer-songwriter and producer Charlotte Boin unveiled her new single ‘the night is long’ on 25 October. This is Charlotte’s first release since she dropped her debut single ‘Eyes On U’  in 2022. 

‘the night is long’ sees the immensely talented artist dive into the discomfort and social anxiety that a night out can sometimes bring. The track was produced and written by Charlotte, whose delicate vocals paint a picture of struggling with the highs and lows of social settings. 

Originally from the southwest of France, Charlotte lends her bilingual dexterity to the track too, as she includes French lyrics in the track. She draws inspiration from the likes of Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, ROSALÍA as well as SZA and intricately depicts the swirling range of emotions and experiences of a 20-something year old. The track is vibrant and charismatic, but still holds a level of depth and introspection. It’s a beautifully profound offering from this rising star.

Hip Hop powerhouse French The Kid shares new single ‘Tijuana’

Rising UK rapper French The Kid dropped his latest hit ‘Tijuana’ on 24 October with an accompanying music video. The Essex-born artist has just finished an Australian tour, and is gearing up for a new chapter in his career with ‘Tijuana’ valiantly leading the charge. 

His previously released single ‘Galahad’ has garnered over 1.8 million views on YouTube alone and continues to rack up views daily. ‘Tijuana’ sees French The Kid dive into themes of introspection, hedonism and escapism. Produced by X10, it has a melancholic undertone, contrasted with a hefty 808 beat and French The Kid’s steadfast delivery creating a palpable atmosphere of contemplation. Despite the stripped down production, the track still carries vehement emotion and energy, with an undeniable grip showcasing his artistic prowess. 

On the track, French The Kid shares; “Tijuana is a vibe man. Worked on the beat with a great producer named X10 and the hook just came to me. Tijuana is a play on words, as the original hook was ‘Purple Marijuana’.”

The accompanying music video was filmed while French The Kid was on tour in Australia. It features moments of him performing to excited fans, intimate scenes of life on tour with popular Australian landmarks like the Sydney harbour and the Opera House as the backdrop. TIHANE shares profound breakup anthem ‘Ain’t That A B!tch’ alongside thrilling video

Los Angeles-based artist, TIHANE shared her latest single ‘Ain’t That A B!tch’ on 25 October. The track is the lead single from her forthcoming debut album The War On Love, slated for release in early 2025. 

TIHANE has Polynesian, Croatian and American roots which she proudly showcases in all her creative endeavors not just her music career. Aside from being a musician, she’s also a performer, Creative Strategist, as well as a speaker who’s been featured on Tedx Talk. 

With ‘Aint’ That A B!tch’, TIHANE puts her unique spin on breakups and heartbreak into an offering that steers away from the melancholic narrative, and instead shifts into something that’s empowering and celebratory. TIHANE shared; “It’s about flipping the script on the old, sad love songs we grew up with.” 

The idea for the single came to TIHANE in the first week after an excruciatingly painful breakup. In the bustling streets of Los Angeles she sang the melody into her phone, and sent it to her co-producer Segnon which resulted in a truly outstanding track. ‘Ain’t That A B!tch’ features TIHANE’s raw, honest and vulnerable lyricism, coupled with her powerhouse vocals soaring over the audacious production. The track gives contemporary soul and R&B an invigorating edge with gripping basslines and vintage samples. ‘Ain’t That A B!tch’ begins as a R&B / soul number, with TIHANE’s vocals leading the charge. It then switches up into a Kaytranada-esque beat creating a whirlwind of emotion and energy. 

The accompanying music video which was shot in the California Canyons, was directed by Cris Blyth and TIHANE. It sees TIHANE give an emotively fervent dance performance with the Canyon landscape as the backdrop. The music video was shot in just one take, and pristinely exhibits the concept of transformation.

Emerging R&B pioneer Saloni drops groundbreaking Rani EP

UK-based singer-songwriter Saloni unveiled her EP Rani on 25 October. Revered for her remarkable ability to seamlessly blend influences from her Eastern heritage with contemporary elements, she has already performed at the iconic OVO Arena Wembley, as well as prestigious festivals like BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend and Godiva Festival in the UK. She also boasts 5 million views and rose to #16 on the Official UK Asian Music Charts for her hit single ‘Nee Gundellounna’.

Rani is a 6 track EP showcasing Saloni’s bold fusion of R&B, Pop and Bollywood which has catapulted her to the forefront of the UK music scene, with international waves on the horizon. The lead single ‘Fair Share’ features Tamil artist Maharani, and includes vocals in three different languages namely English, Telugu and Tamil. ‘Fair Share’ was created virtually, with Saloni and Maharani connecting over WhatsApp and Facetime. The track is a stunning ode to women’s empowerment, self-worth and finding your voice. It features soothing guitar licks, a profoundly captivating hook and chorus, with Saloni and Maharani’s silken vocals dancing in tandem with one another and the immaculate composition. Saloni elaborates on the single: “’Fair Share’ represents a point of independence, about women recognising their worth after experiencing their fair share of mistakes and lessons. It’s Alright feels like a letter to my younger self—acknowledging that doubts and discouragement, whether from others or yourself, are part of the journey. Jazzu embarks on a brand new era with single ‘Razor Blade’

Jazzu should need no introduction. The multi-award winning Lithuanian singer-songwriter shared her profound single ‘Razor Blade’ on 18 October via the Creative Industries record label. The track marks the beginning of a brand new era for Jazzu, who has successfully maintained a 20 year career, a feat that many artists can only dream of. 

In June, she performed to a concert arena of over 20 000 Lithuanian fans further cementing her remarkable impact and influence in her home country. In 2019 Jazzu was the recipient of Best Album, Best Music Video and Best Pop Artist at the M.A.M.A Music Awards, while she shares her wealth of knowledge with burgeoning artists as a judge on Lithuanian X-Factor. 

‘Razor Blade’ is a testament to Jazzu’s personal strength and growth. The track is about an unhealthy relationship dynamic that begins lovingly but turns toxic, which results in emotional turmoil and heartbreak. ‘Razor Blade’ is about finding the strength to let go (no matter how tough it is), put yourself first and being brave enough to start over. Jazzu told us: “When I sing this song, it’s like a ceremony for me – I sing all my pain away, acknowledging that I’m strong enough to always choose me and keep my heart safe. Yung Saber unleashes dancefloor filler ‘M15/NORMAL’ featuring Chi Ching Ching

Creative mastermind Yung Saber unveiled his new single ‘M15/NORMAL’ on October 17th via YUNG SABER MUSIC. Acclaimed electronic music producer Zed Bias produced the fiery single, which also features the electrifying vocals of international dancehall phenomenon Chi Ching Ching. 

The single premiered on prominent tastemaker EARMILK, and is accompanied by a high-spirited music video on the OFFICIAL YUNG SABER RADIO Youtube channel.

‘M15/NORMAL’ is an audacious fusion of dancehall and amapiano, further solidifying Yung Saber’s influence and impact in the industry. So far, he’s amassed over 25 million streams, performed at Glastonbury and received praise from the likes of CLASH. He grew up in a musical family (both parents were reggae DJs), along with his cousin renowned reggae singer Dennis Brown who was a significant influence for him too. Yung Saber’s musical roots are evident in his sonic expression, and ‘M15/NORMAL’ is no exception.

The decision to collaborate with Chi Ching Ching was a spark of genius, as he adds his signature uplifting energy and infectious charm, creating a potent atmosphere throughout the track. The production is impeccable, and Zed Bias does a seamless job at merging the two genres together. The track features a faster tempo than traditional amapiano tracks, but still holds the signature log drum, shakers and synths. It’s driven by Chi Ching Ching’s hard-hitting vocals and quirky adlibs which submerge the listener into a Caribbean and South African infused extravaganza. With the addition of an airhorn, and the alluring rhythm of dancehall ‘M15/NORMAL’ is an auditory feast.

The video features Yung Saber and Chi Ching Ching driving around in premium sports cars, dancing, rapping and having a great time in the streets of London with beautiful women by their side.

UK-based Dancehall luminary Doller unveiled a dazzling music video for his latest hit ‘BAD GYAL’ featuring East London rapper Sincerely Keane. The video was released on October 7th, while the single was released on September 30th and received acclaim from renowned tastemaker NOTION.

Doller has made a name for himself through his lyrical prowess and unwavering determination. A few of his accolades include touring internationally, performing alongside revered Jamaican singer Cblock, as well as headlining Hackney Social’s Wynters Wonder List. 

‘BAD GYAL’ is a nonchalant Dancehall track that’s made to make your body move. It oozes sensuality, fun and lightheartedness against the backdrop of a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. The track is about the pair’s love and admiration for Caribbean women. Through clever wordplay and infectious energy from both Doller and Sincerely Keane, the single is a triumphant feat for both artists. The accompanying music video reflects the energy and ambience of the track perfectly too. It features stunning women donned in party outfits and swaying to the beat, while Keane and Doller have the time of their lives dancing and rapping.
